I think they will be lucky to get 16 cars a week. It is also possible we are seeing a developing economic seachange working against imports. Container traffic is down in LA.

I support SMART's doodlebugs but only out of a desire to rebuild the right of way. The capital investment is way too low to attract the hoped for ridership. Without electrification and some serious grade separation the main market will be tourists, altho an on-line casino would generate some off rush hour business.

So long as the San Francisco connection is missing from the plan Marinites in particular will keep @#$%& that BART would be better. And hardly anybody bothers to step forth to argue what a stupid idea a San Rafael-Richmond BART connection would be.
