Well folks, lets go back about 45 years. The SP had a bunch of freight around the City itself and a bunch of locals down the 50 miles to San Jose. Don't forget Bayshore and San Jose Yard and Redwood & Redwood Jct to the east bay.

During the "Fleet" they would run a commute train every 3 minutes. Even off the fleet times they still had a flock of commute trains. They all ran on time, including two long haul passenger trains. Oh, got to throw the Del Monte in there too. and going a few years before, the Lark and the Mail Train.

They were still able to run freight trains, switchers and the like without any delay. I think there are a lot of carriers back east that have electric commutes and diesel freights on the same lines.

Rail is the cheapest and the greenway to ship and the bay area is plugged full of trucks.

Tell me again why is Caltrain doing this?
