Well, I might as well contribute a little extra here if my buddies don't mind :

CROSSOVERS ON THE SAN FRANCISCO--OAKLAND BAY BRIDGE ......

There were FIVE pairs of Emergency crossovers on the Bridge structure. Each pair consisted of one left hand and one right hand turnout. They were identified and located as follows:
1. RINCON Located at the West end of the bridge where the tracks pass over RINCON HILL.

2. ANCHORAGE Located immediately East and West of the Center Anchorage of the Bridge.

3. ISLAND Located on Yerba Buena Island.

4. CANTILEVER Located on the East Bay crossing approximately 1500 feet EAST of the Cantilever Span.

5. MOLE Located at the EAST end of the Bridge.

Switches of these crossovers were manually operated, if required, and could NOT be thrown
or the crossovers used, except under the direction of the Superintendent--Bridge Railway.

If it became necessary to use these crossovers, flag protection, in both directions, as prescribed by RULE 99, must first have been provided on the main track to be used; and the switch taking out of track upon which the train to be crossed over is standing must then be thrown, and at least one minute before switch in the opposite track is thrown and crossover movement commenced.

These emergency turnouts were governed in both directions by GRS Type SA Dwarf Signals,
three-indication.
