Question -

I was always under the impression the North Shore had a number of grade crossings. When they dropped the wire in favor of third rail, did they close all grade crossings? Does Illinois require security fencing on ground level third rail lines, as has been required required by law in California for more than half a century?

Or did they just put a break in the third rail and forget fencing. If so, how do they keep the trespassers from earning their Darwin Awards on the third rail?
