All trackage south of the present Larkspur ferry terminal was ripped out years ago. SMART's plan is to run commuter trains from Healdburg to the ferry terminal. They intend to serve two different commuter populations; riders wishing to tranfer to the ferry for the ride to downtown SF, and riders traveling from Sonoma County to jobs in San Rafael and vicinity. Studies have shown that the latter group represents a sizeable pool of potential riders.

Using current technology, it is not possible to run commuter trains over the Golden Gate Bridge. No one has seriously suggested any plan to run commuter trains from Marin County into SF. Geography alone makes it impossible. That is why Marin withdrew from BART many years ago.
