Dear OPB: In 1984, Dillingham-Tokla was the construction company who rebuilt the roadway and deck of the Golden Gate Bridge replaced it with modern design with lighter materials. I was the meteorologist on the project. The Chief engineer at that time told me that the suspended deck was 18,000 tons lighter and could easily support light or heavy rail underneath the roadway.
