It is totally unreal Carol, we have already spent close to ten billion dollars on building supposedly "operable segments" for which we have never had any realistic operational plan, around which we should have been planning, designing, and building such a system. So this announcement is about 10 years too late to fix the many costly and wasteful mistakes we've already pissed billions of dollars away on.........
The nitwits and nutjobs will all a good time with this thread, and I see that we already have some samples of that. But, it is announcements like this, that really reveal what a poorly planned, poorly managed, and truly amazing taxpayer funded fiasco this whole CAHSRA project has been.
What are we doing, and why are we doing it.....? The answer was always "build it and they will come"......
This project never had any documented or identifiable "transportation" purpose or need that this project would actually meet. The CHSRA project we are building cures none of our glaring transportation deficiencies, will relieve no congestion that you and I are stuck in, and is probably the most costly, wasteful, and ineffective carbon emission reduction strategy to "save the planet" that one could possibly find to waste those "greenhouse" gas reduction funds on.
And, while we can't find any money to fund most of the top rated projects, with well identified benefits (actual capacity improvements, actual travel time savings, actual demand, actual safety improvement, with actual cost savings to taxpayers, passengers, and operators, and actual congestion benefits), in the State Rail Plan, we seem completely unconcerned as we taxpayers continue to see these folks piss away billions more of our scarce transportation dollars, on this "runaway money train".
Effectively this is an admission that we've just pissed away ten billion dollars while running a rudderless ship over the last ten years........without ever having any plan on how we intend to operate the "money train" when it is done being built...... Because, it is apparently more important to piss away taxpayer money "right away", than to spend those scarce taxpayer dollars the "right way" (like to meet our real and clearly identified public needs....?).
What are we doing, and why are we doing it.....? Or, "build it and they will come......"?
Better late than never, that this is finally being done....maybe? And, I guess that they could have just hired one of the more incompetent, self dealing, and self serving contractors to do this, as they have routinely done throughout this fiasco. At least DB actually does have experience actually running trains.
