Yes, a new populist savior (ala Ahnold or the Great Cheeto) will harness the wrath of old men with bad prostates, who don't get laid often enough, who listen to the real experts about these things, on talk radio, and be our "savior" from the CHSRA and Evil Thomas.....
Polling shows that folks are actually much more angry about congestion these days. Which has reached "fail over" for so much of the day, that folks just plan to add at least twenty minutes to every trip, any time they go anywhere, anymore. And, for better or worse, a lot of folks are not really seething with the "wave of anger" over the gas tax, or this fiasco, that Ken and John would have you believe.....
It's an interesting fantasy, though....
And, there are no cheap solutions, at this point. It's way too late, with the money already "sunk' into the Valley, to unscrew the pooch.
As someone who was there in 95-96 back when Kopp was having "visions", when the "money train" first "left the station", as a much of this project has been based on BS since the it was originally conceived and planned. You'd need Doc's Delorean to go back with Marty, and start over.........
The cost overruns "alone" in the Valley segments, have already cost the equivalent of completing all of the rest of the LOSSAN DT projects, all of the Phase One LOSSAN North Improvements that were to be done over the next twenty year on the piecemeal funding that has been getting, and would pay for the entire Phase One LAUPT run-though project. As I said, that pooch done been screwed......
Plan B? We'll see? I certainly still have my own doubts. Because everything being this F##ked up is not new news, and yet, just like Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice, no one, so far, has found the magic words make this runaway money train stop.
Does the public really care that much? I doubt it. They seem to wish that we had real first world alternatives, wish that honest and competent people were in charge, and that this was being done to meet some of their real mobility needs, instead of the contractors profit margin or politician's egos.
Will this fiasco make Cheetoism the new "state religion" of CA from the groundswell of popular indignation heard on talk radio, or on Altamont? I doubt it.
