Big question is does anyone in Sac either now or later have the stones to take on San Jose in favor of a shift to Altamont? I doubt it. The Pacheco quasi base tunnels would have to be electrified so IMHO there goes your diesel. Spending money on alterations to enable a short-term diesel jury-rig stopgap does not generate much enthusiasm.

Could be our grandchildren will be coping with this ill-conceived fiasco, like BART broad gauge.
