I was watching my ATCS monitor at the time of the incident and have a screen shot, the swicth at the end of the siding was flashing out of communication at the time the MetroLiknk train reached the other end. This does not excuse the engineer from running the red but if this is correct than the UP tain could have entered the same siding hitting the MetroLink train if the signal they saw was clear or restricted on the main. From what I have seen and heard there where at least two failures that lead to the accident. Bottom line when you are responsible for other peoples lives, take every precaution, look at every signal and check your points.
