Nothing like being augmented from Los Angeles to Indio to protect the Indio Extra Board in June through August to protect El Centro on a 7 day stand then released back to Indio to go right back for another 7 days, the way it was. But El Centro did have some good Mexican food like Camacho's on the south end of town in the country. Been there since 1946 also the La Fonda was good. El Centro still had a telegraph key for the SD&AE - T&T operation until Kathleen put he SD&AE out of service. It was cool to see SD&AE 451 and 452 operate when working in El Centro. Did get to use the San Diego wye a few times. But the best was working the Calexico Road Switcher and pulling the interchange from the "Sonora Baja California Railway". Most times there power was a covered wagon or one A-unit. They even had a old FT covered wagon! The SB-C Crews were good rails and friendly. The best Mexican food was just across the border at "Cenaduria Selecta" Back then it was no problem to tie the power down and head across the border for BEANS. The post about the Mexican Market near Main Line Tower was you crossed San Fernando Road walked up to Cypress. Mike one of the clerks who drove carry-all took me there and it was good. You could also access from the low end of "A-Yard" called for Indio the magnet of the desert!
