It never ceases to amaze me how so many people who share a common love of railroading and historic preservation destroy so much accomplishment by their attitudes toward each other. The more I learn about the history of local rail preservation (specifically California), the more stories I hear of volunteer organizations breaking up, friendships busted, preservation projects abandoned, rolling stock sold, all because of in-fighting and bruised egos. What a shame the energy isn't channelled into productive directions. As the global economy tanks and takes us with it, we've got enough of a challenge to stay focused on keeping together what we have in the way of rail history, without contributing to accelerated loss by our petty bickering and dysfuctional appearance to the rest of society, who couldn't care less if rail history simply evaporates.
