Tom, you are absolutely right, as late as the summer of 1993, before Cal Northern took over on 9-23-93, the WESTMAN would leave around 9 a.m. from Willits with the loads, usually just after their 8 hours of rest with 5 SD-9's and a maximum of 4800 tons, (no helpers) They would set-out at Ukiah and sometimes Santa Rosa but with even those two stops the would cover the 120 miles to Petaluma inaround 4 hours and change which is an average of 3o mph with two stops that probably consumed at least 30 to 45 minutes. I would follow them south and after Cloverdale the pacing speeds were often over 50 mph.
