One of the biggest problems I've seen at shortlines all across the spectrum is their enamoring fascination with what I call "Class 1 retreads." "Oooooooh!!! He worked for CSX as a trainmaster!!! Yeah, well, he got fired for a good reason. But nope, he's golden...bring him on.
I can't even list all the companies that were once a good place to work obliterated by this scourge. This fad was the beginning of the end for both customers and employees at many a good shortline over the past decade.
