I notice that on another board, in addition to Sanchez's diabetes medication and the UP conductor with weed, it was reported that Metrolink Conductor Hillenbrand tested positive for Prozac and morphine. Both were prescribed by a doctor, apparently for what must be a pretty serious psychological problem.
But I don't get it: the use of narcotics by employees on duty is prohibited, period. I don't think you get a free pass if the doc sends a note saying you need the morph. I can't see anyone thinking the UP conductor would get off if he had a medical marijuana permit.
So if Hillenbrand were routinely tested, wouldn't the morphine show up, and wouldn't this send him out the door? Sounds like any testing that's done is letting a lot of guys through.
(And Hillenbrand claims the signal was clear -- well, considering he musta been feelin' copacetic, all you can say is whatever, dude.)
The NTSB chair is correct, as far as I can see, in saying this is all a neat little club, and the supervisors let it all by.
