Remember that the limit being talked about for California is that all NEW cars, SUVs and pickup trucks sold in the state must generate zero tailpipe emissions by 2035. So you have eleven more years for NEW vehicles. Besides, history has shown that if a requirement becomes too onerous, the law gets changed.

So in 2035 and later cars must be powered by batteries, hydrogen fuel cell, compressed air, flywheels or some other non polluting energy source. Given the improving capacity and lowering cost of batteries with time, this may become a non-issue. But we shall see. Until then everyone should chose the best option for themselves and not get uppity when someone chooses something different. As for myself, I'm thinking of getting an electric trike. It is all I need for grocery shopping a dozen blocks away as I advance in age and with a range of 60 miles and a cost (new) of $1,500 it's a fit. Yes, I even have a garage to charge it in.
