I think that the heavy rail was laid on the top end of the branch after the FRA dropped by and said that it could not be used for meets until it was upgraded. Clagstone siding was done shortly after that because although it was a nice and long, it was laid with 70lb rail.
I'll agree that most of the big fan-zines tend to have an eastern bias--except for the Sunset Route and the ex-ATSF transcon. It's fine that this area remains a secret as far as I'm concerned. Maybe we need some more Napoleon Dynamite-type of movies to keep the Gem State's reputation remaining dubious. Eastern WA does fine being in the same State as Seattle because a big percentage of the outside populus is convinced that the entire population of the State has webbed feet because of "all of that rain". Now that CTC Board has moved its offices east, they will also probably drop most of their Northwest coverage too.
