Baseball and Trains
The Padres last year had a 'train cam' showing the trains live during the game as they cut under the roof supports at Safeco field in Seattle. The producer must be a foamer. ESPN did the same on one game.
Before my time, the minor league Padres played at Lane Field just west of the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego. Remnants of the spurs the curved around the stadium to the adjacent piers are still embedded in the current parking lot. This inspired the urban myth of the 'longest home run ever'. Ted Williams is said to have hit a home run to Los Angeles, as it landed in a moving freight car headed that way.
Petco Park in San Diego has its back to the San Diego Trolley / San Diego & Imperial Valley Ry yards which can viewed from the mezzanine. But Angels stadium in Anaheim is even better for baseball/trains. The Amtrak depot is in the parking lot, and the Surfline can be seen from some of the cheap seats. Enjoyed many a train trip up the coast, and ballgame, without the hassle of driving.
But how about a rail line in play cutting across the outfield. They showed that in the old Richard Pryor movie 'Brewsters Millions'. Any truth to that?
Thanks folks,
Steve
