I was 12 on a ATSF to Sierra fan trip in 1960 [or so] when Sierra 28 and our train went into a emergency stop as we were heading back to Oakdale. It was said that a local guy was coming up the tracks in his car [not knowing of our special]. That was the story in obs 2901 'Ferroequinologist' where i was buying a coke; I didn't see anything [but was thrown around pretty well]. I remember worries about delaying our connection, but it was just a diesel that brought us to steam in my mind at the time. [ATSF passenger Richmond to Riverbank, switcher to Oakdale, 28 [!} to Jamestown].

I did try McNitting myself on the WP tracks in downtown Oakland--but never went beyond the asphalt. REH
