Yep, it happened in Texas on the return trip from the New Orleans World's Fair.
I think it was on the Del Rio-Alpine segment.

I recall an earlier World's Fair Daylight incident near Mountain View, CA. We were racing down the Peninsula line and then suddenly came to a halt. The tool car had a problem (hotbox?) and was left behind.

All things considered, Southern Pacific hosted the best and longest steam thrill of the last quarter century--- better than the Santa Fe employee special with 3751 or the upcoming 4449 trek over the GN.
