4449 came apart at speed when the draw bar pin fell out. I do not know the exact cause but with the pin falling, the safety draw bar was also rendered useless. The enclosed cab was probably a saving grace as no-one could fall out and be run over. One of the coach attendants on the train that day was the diesel shop superintendent out of El Paso and I know he was not a happy camper. SP 3420 double headed with 4449 for approximately six miles during its west bound trip but that is another story.
