Calm down a little. Just reminding that this line was a flop when SP owned it and there were far more traffic sources, both inbound and outbound, than there are now or likely to appear.
Anybody figure up how many carloadings it will take to recover the costs of putting the line back into service? Not to mention covering operating and fixed costs, plus debt service, plus supporting the oversite agency, plus equipment and ongoing maintenance costs?
And who pays to repair the next round of storm damage?
It will never be financially viable, but just having it there seems to make some people feel better about themselves. The money poured down that rathole could have been more productively spent elsewhere.
