Quote:Actually, I agree that great problems--lack of responsibility and effective oversight--can be attributed to Sanchez's managers, but that's them, not him.
There was a tremendous "lack of responsibility" on Sanchez' part as well. He willfully violated a host of rules and policies, concluding that establishing a relationship with [a]teenage boy(s) was more important than the possibility of losing his job.
Quote:I'm certainly not defending Sanchez;
That would be a difficult thing to do.
Quote:I just believe there's no need to sensationalize his sins and aberrations in order to momentarily entertain.
Is having a discussion about his "sins and aberrations" sensationalizing them? Are you saying that his gay-ness and interest in young boys had absolutely no bearing on any of this? If so, I fear political correctness has clouded your thought process. Remember, it took two to tango here, and Sanchez was "tango-ing" with a teenage boy in the form of texting and making unauthorized cell phone calls, to a point where it adversely affected his performance on his job in such a way that a catastrophic train wreck ensued. He wasn't talking/texting incessantly with his auto mechanic regarding a troublesome electronic ignition system.
To simply dismiss all of this as "sensationalism" or as a venue to "entertain" is, I feel, simply succumbing to political correctness ( **OOOOOOOOHHH!! Let's not do anything that
might upset The Rainbow Coalition and/or GLBT Political Action Committees and Lobbying organizations!!**)
Are we really at a point here in 2010 where we're not supposed to say anything negative about the gay lifestyle and male-male relationships,
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES? Might I remind you that 25 people are dead, and I will take the radical position that Sanchez' gay-ness and interest in young boys played an integral role in it.
I guess Dr. James Dobson from
Focus On The Family is the only individual who would agree with me.
Quote:I don't think our society wants information; they only want bytes of scandal and outrage that they can cluck about amongst themselves like a flock of biddy hens. If you don't believe we're a nation of boobs, just turn on the TV for about five minutes.
Yes, I agree. Television is a vast wasteland out there. Pardon me now while I tune in to another episode of
Will & Grace, followed by reruns of
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Ugh!
Quote:Sanchez's failure to do his job is reason aplenty to demonize him.
. . . but just don't mention his gay-ness and how it played a role in the Chatsworth disaster for two reasons: (1.) Heaven forbid, we might upset gays, and (2.) We will come across as a bunch of biddy hens clucking amongst ourselves.
Quote:Hopefully, his overseers will feel their feet to the fire soon enough, although I fear corporate flimflam will mean the big boys get off the hook.
Sadly, I think that's probably a slam-dunk. You and I may not agree on much, but we are in agreement here.
Quote:In the meantime, Dan, relax and have another Twinkie.
Hey, all that sugar really gets my typing fingers running full bore!
