When Picking Strawberries, Washing Dishes & Mowing Lawns Just Doesn't Pay Enough

Here's an interesting article from a local newspaper in Kingman, AZ. This is the second time recently where I've read a newspaper article about crimes involving people with Hispanic surnames and the police agencies and the press want to make sure that everyone is aware that the individuals involved are "alleged" illegal immigrants. Why "alleged"? How long does it take to determine a person's legal status? 10-15 minutes? With computer data bases, a couple of hours at the most? The fake drivers license and/or the ID card issued by the Mexican consulate might yield a clue or two.
Apparently it's now becoming politically incorrect to call an illegal alien an illegal alien.
I guess robbing trains is, as the politicians say, "one of those jobs that Americans won't do," hence the **alleged** illegal alien connection.
Kudos to Arizona for passing that recent "get tough" legislation. One state down. Forty-nine to go!

Train Robbers Nabbed
The Kingman (AZ) Standard

Mohave County, AZ -- A routine traffic stop in Mohave Valley led to the arrests of two men whose 1997 Jeep Cherokee was reportedly loaded with equipment commonly used in burglaries.
Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter saind deputies stopped the Jeep for speeding on Route 1 on April 11, at 11:30 p.m.
"A search of the vehicle revealed a pair of bolt cutters, a cordless saw with extra blades, five cellular phones, three ski masks, work gloves and a night vision monocular," Carter said. Taken into custody were Julio Cesar-Garcia Bernal, 25, and Joaquin Treto Treto, 21, alleged illegal immigrants currently residing in southern California.
Carter said the men were jailed initially for false reporting given their untruthfulness when questioned about their identities.
She said awareness of recent train car burglaries prompted deputies to contact officials with Burlington Northern and Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad.
Carter said BNSF officials determined the men were responsible for the burglary of a train car somewhere between Topock and Kingman. BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent declined further comment, stating the company seldom publicly discloses information about crimes along the railroad.
