Sam, I agree with you fully, except for that part about the train should have waited. The people should have waited. What if the situation was diffrent, and there was a long line of semi trucks stuck in traffic blocking a street and people were going under them? Why should people/business stop what they are doing because it temporarily inconveniences people? You can't do anything without inconveniencing someone, and I don't see why the train crew should have to delay themselves because some sports fans just couldn't wait to get to their game. Now granted, it is very apparent from the video that the location could use a under/over pass, but from some of the comments on the video, it sounds like one is being built.
I remember being in Seattle one time during a Seahawks game and watching in amazement the crowds crossing South Royal Brougham Way. There were all kinds of trains cutting through the sea of people, most of them Sounder and Amtrak passenger trains (not something that can really wait unlike a freight train). I never once saw this kind of thing going on. Why? Both City of Seattle and BNSF cops were on hand at the crossing to keep people from being as stupid as they were in the video. The only thing the RR should have done differently in the above video was have some cops on hand.
