I knew about the coal bunker but never thought about how the coal got in it! Makes complete sense that it was unloaded off this spur. I wonder if there was more trackage up there, sidings for unloading or anything. Wish I could go back in time and look. It's all changed far too much for traces to be left now.
Do you remember riding (with parents) through the one-way tunnel under the Sperry elevator, before they put the traffic lights at both ends? Sometimes meeting at the SE end, which was a bit wider, and squeezing by another vehicle, or one having to back out. I think they put up the lights about the time the mill closed, 1965 or so.
I have photos of most the exterior, but not the tracks topside, don't know why I didn't take any!
