Of the pair, I feel that 2-10-4 5021 is particularly significant as she is one of the two ATSF
steamers used as helpers out of Belen, NM on the final day of revenue steam. The other was
4-8-4 3780 IIRC. 5021 returned to Belen first and 3780 followed by a couple of hours or so, becoming the last one to see revenue steam use. Don't have the exact date in front of me, but I believe it was somewhere around August of 1957. Any corrections welcomed here, thanks.
In any event, the 5001 class were formidable machines with a t.e. of 93,000 lbs. and drivers
slightly larger than many passenger engines, seventy four inches. That and a 310 lb. boiler.
