I carried two Cannon SLRs for decades, one with KX and one with higher speed Ektachrome. Now my one excellent Cannon DSLR can shoot any ISO up to 6400. Late evening shots, in subway shots, etc. with train motion are no problem.

Color rendition? The electronic darkroom can give you any.

I carried a note book. No more. Take several frames of the same train, far and near, zoomed in and out, then take the local water tower with the town name on it or the grade crossing box so you know where you took the pictures or a milepost sign. The train has multiple units. No problem, take a cab shot of each one to record the number of each.

That evening crop each best picture instantly, rotate it if need be, make it beautiful and post it for other to see. No need to wait for processing and get back slides you must scan anyway (at loss of quality) before you can do anything with the picture.

Shoot at the highest resolution possible so you can crop drastically and still have a good quality picture.

A film camera is to the typewriter as a digital camera is to a laptop. Ernest still probably has a typewriter someplace just in case.
