That last one raises a question for me: is there a decent way to "burn" digital images to film for long-term archiving?

In the audio biz, the best way to archive a performance is to dump the digital files to analog tape. A stereo mix dumped to analog tape at 15 or 30 ips results in something that's nearly as quiet as the digital original, will last a LOT longer (digital magnetic tape tends to degrade over time, and there's even still some question about the longevity of normal CDRs), and will always be recoverable if anybody has the ability to build a basic tape machine (no algorithms to figure out other than, possibly, the EQ curve). As long as the tape hasn't physically degraded (a problem with acetate backings, and with some tapes from the 1970s-80s), even very old (50 years or more) analog tapes can be recovered, cleaned up digitally, then re-recorded for another 50 years in the vault. So, on the photo side, can you scan (with a Really Good Scanner, which I don't have), clean up the image, then make another negative or slide out of it on stable material?
