There is NO tunnel here in Fairfield on the old SN ROW. Linear park terminates at Beck Ave. and west of it is a bike & walking trail out to the local college. The old railroad cars are still parked on the northwest side of The Old San Francisco Express restaurant which I believe is no longer in business. The old SN ROW is still visible on the CMF grounds and runs the lenght of the complex until one gets to Peabody Road. Beyond that, very little of it exists aside from the twin concrete pillars that once support the bridge over the ex-SP tracks now owned by the Yellow Borg machine. The branch line at Cannon is still in place and has a switch, interlocker and a UP style tri-color (well, two colors at least) signal.

What I don't understand is if both the Fairfield & Suisun City cities always keep "plugging" the small industrial park (Lambie Industrial Park) in having rail access, why doesn't the WRM (Western Railway Museum) capitalize on this "plugging" and work together with the industries in this park to interchange with the UP or the CFNR since the trackage is still there as it the interchange point at Cannon. Sure, the rail is old, but couldn't some rail from some other RR property be had and installed to make the promotion of the industrial park being "rail served" a reality?

The old ex-SP branch ROW north of Vacaville is still visible over several miles headed north towards Winters and Esparto when the old SP freight house still stands. On county Road 28 noth of Winters aside from having the old RR trestle still in place across Putah Creek in Winters, CA, along the old ROW is an old grain elevator and the once served elevator still has visible spots where the rails to it once were. Stay on this county road until it intersects with Hwy. 16 and one can still see a little of the old ROW and even more when headed to Esparto on the north side of Hwy. 16. At one time in the past 10 years, the old SP ROW was still visible on Depot Street and north of East Monte Vista Ave., the ROW was still visible although much of it is now beneath new "clone" homes, asphalt and concrete. Parts of it are still visible in the Vaca Valley Business Park up until one get to Marani Packing. It is still visible at Midway Road headed towards Winters.

As for that BVC plant in Vacaville that was turned into a sports center and an ice rink, the sports center owners have changed hands a couple of times and with this nasty recession, things are looking bleak for it. The entire acreage now sports a huge movie complex coupled with a large restaurant and several smaller shops including that almighty Starbuck's! The old SN ROW is now a walking path from where the tunnel once existed which the I-80 freeway overpass although the ROW is still intact and travels thru a few neighborhoods when it terminates at the CMF prison. On one side of Peabody Road is family housing while across the street is both the CMF facility and the central state prison grounds.

Two pieces of clothing are forbidden to wear anywhere on the prison grounds on the general public side of either prison by the general public: No blue colored shirts or T-shirts and no blue colored denim pants. The prisoners wear these and the general public could be mistaken for a prisoner on the outside but yet still on the prison grounds whether it's the CMF facility or the central prison. The wording "CDC Prisoner" is very light in color context as compared to the shirt color overall. Nothing could be worse than to be mistaken for a loose prisoner!
