Having only been a Solano Cty resident for about 15 years, I was never familiar with any of it's historic rail lines, but I have often noticed that Fairfield's Linear Park and "tunnel" passing under I-80 and wondered about it's history. After looking @ Google maps, it is very clear that there was either a rail line here or burried water transmission lines whose owners would not allow construction above. My instinct tells me that it was a rail, as the trail dies @ a spot called "Vacaville Junction" on their map.
As a coincidence with the SN and BAER dialog here, I took my 2 year old grandson to the Western Railway Museum for the first time on Saturday, I believe he had a great time ! He also seems to like drag racing, so between that and trains, I am looking forward to having someone to share my interests with !
