My daughter and I rode the Chehalis-Centralia in early July...we showed up an hour or so ahead of train time and had no problems getting tickets. However, by the time they started boarding they were overwhelmed with people, to the point they had to uncouple the #15 and run back to the enginehouse for their other two coaches, but only after it became very apparent they did not have enough seats on the two coaches they originally brought to the depot.

To be honest, of the three steam trips we rode that week (Mt. Rainier, Chehalis, Oregon Coast), I was least impressed with Chehalis.

And, as Tom said, the Oregon Coast now has a rod engine (McCloud River #25, built September 1925 by American Locomotive Company). They may have a second rod engine in a couple years, after they finish restoration of the "Skookum" (Baldwin 2-4-4-2). We missed seeing the #25 by a couple weeks, which gives us an excuse to try it again next year...
