This must be that half baked idea from the Harbor District I got wind of a few weeks ago. Coos Bay port development is probably giving Humboldt Bay the shivers. They must want to invite Goldman-Sachs back for another bite? The 1909 idea was partially based on expansion of SP electrification in the West after the IER. Surveys to Red Bluff would have involved extensive tunnels. Of course the Eel River was ultimately chosen for obvious reasons, two railroads could build it quick and cheap and going east never got much beyond the talk stage. The NWP Carlotta Branch was sort of a finger in that direction. Where would the billions come from and why??? Reminds me of the "Pacific Rim Railroad" touted by some fisher on this board a few years ago.
When you've got nothing, and Humboldt Bay has next to nothing for an economy these days, talking about anything is something.......even 100 year old pie in the sky ideas. Why doesn't the Harbor Distict put some real teeth and support into the THA World Class Timber Heritage Museum and see what comes of that. At least that IS something.
