The EPA regs on power plants has a 3 year timeline, with a possibility of a 4th year. Utilities have known about the proposed regulation going back into the Bush Admin. They could have cleaned up their plants, but chose to send their army of lobbyists to CongressCritters.

You're not hearing about "clean coal" any more are ya ? The emmission of mercury and micro contaminants is a serious health problem. That is also true of the micro particulates from idling trucks and locomotives. We can do better. And that pollution crosses not only states but international borders.

Badger has been fighting the ash program for a long time. Their polution permit[ironic] is about to expire, so they will have to convert. But if Badger is layed up, it will be for other reasons, just like her sister ship.

It is time that the Enviornmental Protection Agency actually protected the enviornment.
