My first job out of college was with the Rock on a system tie gang (TS&R 1, if I remember correctly) as they 4R'd (ie government funding) the line from Memphis TN (I started with the gang in Booneville, AR) to El Reno OK.

I worked with some of these dudes in the late 70's, good guys.

According to the March 1983 edition of Trains Magazine, the 4R'd line from Perry, AR to McAlester OK was abandoned.

I will leave it to you to determine the value of government funding, for me it was great, I got a paycheck!
