I worked with a mechanic that refered to any electrical problem as a "short" I suspect that the oil in the connector problem really isn't a short, but rather an open caused by the oil blocking the electrical signal. True shorts would be easier to find as it would blow fuses or set off alarms, where an open wouldn't and would make it harder to find. I have to say, every computer controled engine, automotive or locomotive, that wouldn't run, quit running or wouldn't start, for me showed no codes on the computer the entire time the mechanics tried to find the problem. Many of the locomotives in question displayed "ready" or something to that effect the whole time, and when the codes were run, "no faults found" was the usual display.
Hmmm, that seems to be what I get when my computer quits as well.
