Well, my dad met the PR officer George Kraus in Portland back in the late 1970's early 1980's and became good friends. He soon then offered a ride for myself on the SP business car 106 "Oregon" between Portland and Salem. On the trip then governor Vic Atiyeh, his wife, Mr. Kraus and myself, along with the staff of the car.
When I first got to the station with my parents, we were given a quick tour of the car which was sitting on the south of the walkway on track 1.
Soon after one of the Alcos from the Portland Terminal Railroad came down to hook up the car and drag it north to place it on the rear end of the Starlight.
Due to my age at the time I was not allowed to be on the back platform while the car was in motion. I remember Mr. Kraus saying that I was a joy to have on the trip asking questions about the train and the car along the way when I could break in between the govenors conversations.
I have a few photos of the trip taken from a 126mm cartridge Minolta camera somewhere.
I might get a ride in another PV car soon. Will have to see what this new experience will be like.
