While I do not have one favorite observation car, there are three rides that come to mind.
1] To attend the NRHS Albany, N.Y. convention in 1967, I rode in the N.Y.C. "Sandy Creek" from Chicago, IL. to Albany, N.Y. The N.Y.C. RR's "20th Century Limited" left Chicago, IL. on Friday Sept. 1, 1967 and I got off in Albany about 7 A.M. on Sat. Sept. 2, 1967.
2] As part of my return to Peoria, IL. that Labor Day weekend, I rode in the "Tower View" on the PRR "Broadway Limited" from New York City, N.Y. to Chicago, IL. Left New York City Sun. evening on Sept. 3, 1967 and arrived in Chicago on Mon. morning Sept. 4, 1067.
3] For our third "Honeymoon" trip, my wife Diana and I attended the NRHS Denver, CO. convention in 1969. The return to Peoria, IL. included a ride on the "California Zephyr" from Denver, CO. to Galesburg, IL. (CB&Q). We rode in the "Silver Crescent" which was a Western Pacific car. There was a girl singing and playing a guitar. A fun trip. We left Denver Sun. evening Sept. 7, 1969 and arrived about noon in Galesburg on Mon. Sept. 8, 1969.
I am posting this on our 43rd wedding anniversary, June 7, 2012. Thank you for stirring the memories.
