There are observation cars which look beautiful from the outside, but the interior seating is arranged to make it difficult to have a nice view through the rear. I have ridden in Amtrak and VIA dome-observation cars as well as the Cedar Rapids. Aesthetically, they are beautiful from othe outside. But the seats at the rear end all face inward.

Thus my favorite observation would be the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Northland. I rode on this car between Duluth and Two Harbors, Minnesota during the 2004 NRHS Convention. The interior was magnificent. On the return, I even enjoyed a private label Northland beer.
