I have fond memories of the private car "La Condesa." It was my first private car trip (Oakland-Reno)in 1975, and I rode it to Bakersfield and back in 1979. The main lounge area was very spacious (great for a large group on a day trip), and the rear platform was quite large--as I recall there was room for three rows of folding chairs. The car now belongs to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum and is located on the Santa Maria Valley RR. If it still has friction bearings, that would rule out any more mainline trips.
