Not really, not a pipe dream.
And anyone have any idea what that would cost. ( I do )
Why not build a new railroad for 125 miles with modern, double stack cleared tunnels and a few modern bridges on about a 1% grade and intersect the UP just north of the Feather River Canyon?
Preliminary study says this is feasible and significantly less costly than restoreing and upgrading the NWP to handle double stack trains. They will need to travel 315 miles to interchange
with the UP, and then contend with the capitol corridor trains, just to get to Roseville
Works for double stack container trains; works for export coal.
