Just wondering... Do the highways in the area make a profit? Are they self-sustaining or do they need public funds to operate? I don't recall a lot of toll roads in that area, and I doubt that the gas tax revenue covers the highway costs.

If they're not self-sustaining, can anyone explain why the double standard? Why does this transportation system have to make money when the other, far less fuel efficient, option does not. I thought the fine folks in Oregon were all big into the "Green Revolution"?
