One thing (actually two) are the fact that the rock quarry owned by the Port at Buxton would be cut off from rail service. The second, maybe more important consideration, is the FIBEROPTIC INSTALLATION follows the track through the canyon and must be repaired and maintained. This shows up in photos of the POTB damage as the red and blue conduits hanging in mid-air alongside the track.

The value of the track material between say Buxton and Salmonberry far outweighs the cost to remove it. I would estimate somewhere 1 1/2 to 2-million "profit" after the salvage is complete based on previous salvage jobs I have been involved in in the past.

POTB has done a LOT of trackwork in the past few years; particularly ties and surfacing. With the shortage of relay ties available and the general slowdown in abandonments/takeups this material is prime merchandise.
