I knew you when you hung around Fruitvale Tower a long long time ago.

I was on that New Years eve trip to Monterey in December 31 1957 and January 1, 1958. The 2475 could not make it around the Ord loop (too much grass on the rail) with the train and ended up doing it by itself. And yes there was a very well documented trip from San Jose to Tracy on January 1st, 1958 and the 2475, which is a P-8, provided the power. I have the photos to prove it. It was the last run for the 2475, or for any SP 4-6-2 until the 2472 was restored to service.

In the 1950's, and probably back to World War II, power as heavy as 4-8-4's could operate as far a Fort Ord. In fact I think Charles Givens was on a troop train from Ft. Ord to Ft. Lewis, and had a 4-8-4 on the train out of Ft. Ord.
