MTC is useless. For all intents and purposes MTC is BART.
Freight should have been ditched from the onset. The NWP is for the history books. Forget Bugatti doodlebugs in favor of electric light rail.
The NWP fanboys should have demanded loco-hauled passenger from the beginning if they wanted to preserve the past. The doodlebugs are a dead giveaway of which mode is going to dominate eventually, just as with the 115lb. rail.
The 800 lb. gorilla in the room is BART, which considers colonizing the entire Bay Area its manifest destiny. The last thing it wants is a successful standard gauge OC operation in the NorthBay. You can already detect its malevolent eye on the Geary corridor, which cannot even get trolley coaches.
But what the hell. The whole Bay Area is going ghetto. Longitudinal seating on Muni Metro? cattlecars.
