The $400,000 price tag is not uncommon (actually a little cheap), for a main track switch in signaled territory of a state-owned passenger rail entity. Labor costs for track, signal, engineering, etc., departments are billed highly - One similar entity, unnamed to protect the not-so-innocent, charges approx. 175% overhead on everything INCLUDING materials.
