It may be a stretch to blame Carter for the demise of the Milwaukee Road, but one has to remember that the very difficult economic times of the Carter years did lead to a number of business failures. It is always hard to divide the blame for a bad economy--some with the President, some with Congress, some with factors beyond their control. But, from an economic standpoint the Carter years were not good. I know, because operated my own business at that time.
