That was exactly my point. Elmhurst was in the chapter that went from Oakland east to Sacramento, after Oakland and before Berkeley. It was represented as being east of Oakland but before Berkeley, Crockett and Martinez.

That was a few pages before the author stated that Martinez was the connecting point between the Shasta Route and coastal line during SP days.
