Collision occurred 80 feet south of grade crossing

Bob2 ---
From what I read, that horrible crash occurred
80 feet south of the grade crossing, and the
pick-up truck that was hit was in the gauge
when it was hit, thus allowing parts of the
truck to get under that Rotem cab car and
lift it off the tracks.
And yes, that could have derailed a heavy
locomotive, too -- but perhaps not as easily.
I, too, am very interested in what the NTSB
final report will say. I hope that the fact that
Metrolink had begun to clean up the crash
debris before the NTSB had even arrived at
the scene will not hinder their fact-collecting,
although I can't imagine how it wouldn't have
destroyed a lot of essential evidence.
Time will tell.
RIP, Glenn Steele.
