Go talk to anyone who worked in factories in the 50's/60's about the benefits they received from union shops. The non-union dudes got wage parity simply because the non-union manufactures didn't want the workforce to go union.
The end result... a reasonable middle-class economy.
Having done that... look into what happened to the partly unionized industrial north east when jobs moved to "Right to Work" states in the south east, OOPs, the work went to China. A southern cracker willing to work for dirt wages was still more expensive than a Chinese coolie.

why not thank the citizens of the US who funded the construction of dams, aqueducts, canals and etc, through taxes from citizens 3,000 miles away.
